First line indentation does not get saved.

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have formatted my doc. and have used first line indentation for the normal style.  After saving the doc all seems to work fine, but once I exit the Word application and then reload the document, the first line indentation is lost. <br>
Can anyone help please :-&

That's one of the reasons that modifying Normal para style is notrecommended...

That's one of the reasons that modifying Normal para style is not
recommended... Your modified version, is stored only in the document where
you modified it unless you check the 'Add to template' box. The 'customized'
version [having the same name as the built-in Normal] is being overridden by
the built-in Normal which takes precedence.

Although you could use 'Add to template' to update Normal style in your
Normal.dotm template that could create a number of other problems further
down the road... Most of the built-in styles are based on Normal, so those
other styles inherit from it.

Instead, it might be better to create your own custom style based on another
style or None. Define it as you wish to include the 1st line indent & use
the 'Add to template' checkbox. Then go to Word> Preferences - Edit to
select your style as the Default Paragraph Style if that is what you want to
use routinely in future documents.

After posting this query, I suspected it had something to do with templates, so managed to get it to work OK, but your response has certainly shown me the better way of doing it. <br>
