Word - Adobe PDF add-on keeps crashing

I am using MS Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. For some reason,
when I try using the Convert to PDF add-on, Word keeps crashing and when it
restarts it asks if I want to disable the add-on. I have tried it both ways...
I have disabled the add-on and then I have to print to PDF rather than do a
straight conversion... and I have left the add-on enabled. I estimate it
crashes about 50% of the time. It does not seem to matter what the document
size is, it crashes with large documents and with very small documents. Any
ideas??

I would suggest contacting Adobe as this seems to be their problem.
Word 2007 has its own 'Save As Pdf' option. You might want to try that one.
Unless you have very specific needs, it covers the same task as the acrobat
add-in.

It is version 8 the OP has - there is no free upgrade path from 8 to 9.
Version 8.2.1 should work problem free with Office 2007.

Sorry for the delayed reaction... for some reason I am not getting notified
of replies to my posts despite the fact that I have checked that option...
now that I am aware of that I will be sure to come back more often and check.
I currently have Adobe Acrobat Pro v. 8.2.2 loaded. I am still having
intermittent problems with the Distiller crashing when converting from Word
to PDF. This is for complex technical manuals with many bookmarks,
cross-references, etc. Will the Save as PDF option in Word work for that, as
well, or will it just generate a simple PDF file?
Thanks!

The notification of messages has not worked properly for months.
The PDF plug-in for Word is nowhere near as sophisticated as Acrobat, but
whether it will preserve your links you will have to establish by testing.
If Acrobat is crashing, then it may be worth repairing the Acrobat
installation, but check that there are no conflicts with other
add-ins/templates. See

Ah. Good to know it is not something I did (re: notification of messages).
I will try your suggestions. Thanks!
Chinese characters Word Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Power PC I have always been able to use Chinese characters in the English version of Word 2004 (Mac) and Word 2003, 2007 (Windows). Now with Word 2008, no-go. I can type fresh characters fine, but if If I paste in characters, it shows those ugly repeating rectangles only. The suggestion of using the "Microsoft Language Register" to set it to Japanese also does not help. Just an aside, there is no "Microsoft Language Register" for any of these other versions of Word. Both TextEdit and iWork > Pages can open a Word document that has Chinese characters, or

Removing or Converting HTML code when Web text is pasted into Word 2007 Word I have just searched this group for prior threads about this topic and I did text which I copy from Web pages and which I then paste into my local Word 2007 files. I value the content which is displayed at one blog. The content is detailed local files. When I have saved Web text to my local files I can use Word 2007's capabilities to reformat the text, to highlight sections in different colors and fonts, to using the pages' "Edit" menus. I am able to paste that code into my local Word 2007 files as a way of working around the disablement of the usual copy capability

multilevel lists Word I am writing an engineering report using multilevel lists. Every 4th or 5th page, Word places a large blank space on the page after I press Enter. The new list existing page. Sometimes only 3 or 4 lines of text are on the page when Word inserts the blank space and starts a new page. I displayed formatting marks and there next page and press Enter, 3 or 4 sections later (3.2.5 for example), Word fills the blank section on the previous page with text and the document looks normal up numbering and if I have to insert a sub-section (3.2.5.1), Word adds another 1 / 2 page blank space. To make the 44 page document look somewhat unsuccessfully to "select" the blank section, it is not a hidden table. Can anyone help?
