Word 2003 exclusion dictionary problem or by design?

Asked By Raul Queiroga

Hi all,

Here goes some questions all regarding the use of exclusion dictionary in
Word 2003:
1 - When we add a "correct" word to a exclusion dictionary, it is correctly
marked as misspelled by the spelling but the same word is suggested as
option...it does not make sense since by adding it to the exclusion dictionary
I am considering it misspelled...
2 - After adding a "correct" word to a exclusion dictionary, when we open an
old document, any words added that are already part of the document will not be
marked as misspelled unless one pust a space after or before the word (in
word 2007 it works correctly)...is this by design?
3 - Can one have an exclusion dictionary file in a directory configures in
the registry like with a custom dictionary?

Thanks,

What was the "correct" word you added?

When I say "correct" word I mean any word that is present in the main
dictionary.

Regarding my 2) question I found out that one needs to Click the Recheck
Document button after changing the spelling and grammar options or openning a
custom or special dictionary (KB176857)

Regarding my 3) do have any info on it?

Thanks again for your time.

One can add new custom dictionary files to word that are in a centralized
location using the registry entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\Custom
Dictionaries]

I would like to know if one can do the same with the exclusion dictionary
file.
I guess I still do not understand.

I guess I still do not understand. Are you wanting to have more than one
exclusion dictionary? AFAIK, no specific Registry entry is required for
either custom dictionaries or the exclusion dictionary, but there can be
only one exclusion dictionary. Unlike previous versions, however, Word 2007
provides the dictionary (you do not have to do so); the trick is locating it.
